Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
It is the player's first title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.
Success also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was over.
But the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the last five games to take the lead.
Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 early break points in a close third set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
