A tragic train derailment in the southern state of Oaxaca has caused the fatalities of at least 13 people, an incident expected to reignite censure from critics regarding the rapidity and management of the country's major infrastructure initiatives.
The crash happened on the Interoceanic Train, a rail link developed to connect the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific across the thinnest stretch of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This endeavor was created to provide an competing rail corridor to the Panama Canal, with the goal of spurring regional growth in the area.
“We shall thoroughly investigate the reasons behind this accident,” affirmed the national leader.
The leader announced that, of the some 250 passengers on board, another 98 were wounded, with five of those in serious condition. The president added plans to go to Oaxaca to speak with those impacted.
